Buyer – Engineering & Manufacturing
Salary: £45,000 plus bonus and comprehensive benefits
Location / Hybrid: Slough, Berkshire – Hybrid Working (3 days in the office, 2 days working from home)
Our client, an established engineering and manufacturing business, is seeking an experienced Buyer to join its Operations team. This is an excellent opportunity for a purchasing professional with experience within engineering, manufacturing or electronics who is looking to join a successful organisation offering hybrid working, career development and an excellent benefits package.
Working closely with the Senior Buyer, you will play a key role in ensuring materials and components are sourced efficiently to support production, while building strong supplier relationships and helping to drive commercial performance across the supply chain.
The role:
Reporting to the Senior Buyer, you will be responsible for sourcing and purchasing materials and components required for production. You will manage supplier relationships, negotiate commercial terms and ensure materials are available at the right time, at the right cost and to the required quality standards.
Duties include:
* Purchasing components, raw materials and production supplies in line with operational requirements
* Managing purchase orders from placement through to delivery, resolving shortages and delivery delays
* Sourcing, assessing and developing UK and international suppliers
* Negotiating pricing, lead times, payment terms and supply agreements
* Monitoring supplier performance across cost, quality and delivery
* Working closely with Production, Quality, Logistics and Finance teams
* Reviewing stock levels and placing orders to prevent shortages and excess inventory
* Analysing market trends and identifying opportunities to reduce costs and improve supply chain performance
* Maintaining accurate purchasing records, supplier information and data within the ERP system
* Ensuring purchasing activities comply with company procedures and relevant quality and regulatory standards
Working hours:
* Monday to Friday
* 37.5 hours per week
* Hybrid working with three days in the office and two days working from home
Experience/skills required:
* Previous purchasing or procurement experience gained within an engineering, manufacturing or electronics environment
* Experience purchasing technical components, materials or production-related products
* Strong supplier management and commercial negotiation skills
* Experience using ERP or MRP systems
* Good Microsoft Excel and data analysis skills
* Ability to manage multiple orders, priorities and deadlines
* Excellent communication, problem-solving and stakeholder management skills
* Strong attention to detail
Desirable:
* A relevant degree or procurement qualification would be advantageous but is not essential where supported by suitable industry experience
