Buyer – Engineering and Manufacturing
Location: Slough, Berkshire
Salary: £45,000 plus bonus and benefits
Working pattern: Hybrid – three days in the office and two days working from home
Hours: 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday
An established engineering and manufacturing business is looking for an experienced Buyer to join its Operations team in Slough.
Reporting to the Senior Buyer, you will source and purchase materials and components needed for production. You will manage supplier relationships, negotiate commercial terms and ensure materials are available at the right time, cost and quality.

Key responsibilities
• Purchase components, raw materials and production supplies in line with operational requirements.
• Manage purchase orders from placement through to delivery, resolving shortages and delays.
• Source, assess and develop UK and international suppliers.
• Negotiate pricing, lead times, payment terms and supply agreements.
• Monitor supplier performance across cost, quality and delivery.
• Work closely with production, quality, logistics and finance teams.
• Review stock levels and place orders to prevent shortages and excess inventory.
• Analyse market trends and identify opportunities to reduce costs and improve supply-chain performance.
• Maintain accurate purchasing data, records and supplier information within the ERP system.
• Ensure purchasing activities comply with company procedures and relevant quality and regulatory standards.
About you
You will need:
• Previous purchasing or procurement experience gained within an engineering, manufacturing or electronics environment.
• Experience buying technical components, materials or production-related products.
• Strong supplier-management and commercial negotiation skills.
• Experience using ERP or MRP systems.
• Good Microsoft Excel and data-analysis skills.
• The ability to manage multiple orders, priorities and deadlines.
• Strong communication, problem-solving and stakeholder-management skills.
• Excellent attention to detail.
• A relevant degree or procurement qualification would be advantageous but is not essential where supported by suitable industry experience.
