Legal Billing Specialist – Legal Aid Focus
Location: Hayes, West London
Salary: Circa £30,000 (DOE)
Hours: Monday to Friday, 9:00am – 5:30pm
Type: Permanent, Full-Time

We’re recruiting for a Legal Billing Specialist to join a well-established law firm in Hayes. This firm is known for its expertise in criminal law and has built a strong local reputation for quality and client care. You'll play a key role in ensuring that Legal Aid billing is accurate, compliant, and submitted on time — keeping the finance function ticking smoothly behind the scenes.
Key Responsibilities:
– Prepare and submit Legal Aid Agency (LAA) billing, including CRM7, Magistrates’ Court and Crown Court claims
– Liaise with cost draftsmen, courts, and LAA teams to resolve queries and ensure successful claim outcomes
– Track WIP and submit Payment on Account requests
– Review and re-submit rejected claims or appeals
– Support private client invoicing and help manage file closures
– Post professional fees and disbursements accurately in the case management system
– Ensure compliance with LAA regulations and meet internal billing deadlines
What We're Looking For:
– Previous Legal Aid billing experience (criminal law strongly preferred)
– Strong understanding of LAA processes and forms (CRM7, POA etc.)
– High attention to detail and numerical accuracy
– Organised approach with the ability to manage multiple deadlines
– Confident communicator when working with internal teams, courts, and external contacts
– Familiar with Excel and legal case management systems (experience with LEAP, Proclaim, or similar useful)
